Its common these days to see people buying up vitamin C tabs, pills, and chewables at the beginning of cold and flu season. While some swear by the immune system boosting properties some still question whether these supplements really help. There are many studies that definitively show Vitamin C is needed by the body for production of collagen and without it you will eventually die of scurvy. Other studies have found benefits of the vitamin in other areas, making use of its antioxidant properties. While some claim the vitamin can be used in high doses to cure the common cold or lessen the degree and severity of illnesses.

First off Vitamin C has been studied as an aid in fighting cancer. One exciting, but preliminary study was performed on live cancer cells in a test tube environment. Scientists administered infusions of Vitamin C to a set of nine cancer cell cultures and four normal cell cultures. The cancer cells had a fifty percent decrease in survival rate, while the normal cells appeared to be unaffected. The vitamin C appeared to kill cancer cells in a laboratory environment. While this is promising it should be noted that this is not a study that was performed in humans and many things can be promising in the laboratory but some things just don’t work out in the real world trials.

Diabetics may be interested to know that Vitamin C is being studied as a way to increase the body’s receptiveness to insulin. The disease is partly characterized by the blood vessels inability to respond Nitric Oxide (NO) which is secreted by the walls of the blood vessel and encourage the muscles to relax increasing blood flow to the areas of the body. The vessel walls don’t relax and thus contribute to the body’s insulin resistance. It’s been confirmed that injections of vitamin C have been shown to improve vessel wall reaction to NO in diabetic patients. The new study is going to observe the effectiveness of oral vitamin C in Diabetic patients.

There were many, many studies performed to try and determine whether vitamin C can indeed prevent the common cold. In the seventies there were a series of trial run by a team headed by a Dr. Terrence Anderson at the University of Toronto. His studies found the same results as many other studies, that vitamin C though necessary in the body doesn’t prevent the common cold. It does seem to lessen the length of time you have a cold by half a day on average and there is no need to take really high doses to achieve this. It appears that you can get the same effect as a very high dosage of vitamin C in a higher than usual dosage of 250mg during a cold when the cold ends you should return to the recommended daily value of 60mg.

A deficiency of vitamin E is rare in humans. Vitamin E is present in many of the foods we eat on a daily basis, Wheat, Sunflower seeds, Hazelnuts, Soybean oil (Soy is present in just about every packaged product on the market), Broccoli and etc. Though studies indicate we don\’t get the full recommended daily intake of vitamin E, which is twenty-two and a half international units.

Since these studies came out many people began to worry that they weren\’t getting enough of the vitamin and began taking mega doses of vitamin E. While in some cases its certainly true that people need supplementation, such as pregnant or lactating women its not entirely necessary for the general population.
Vitamin E deficiency has never been proven in a healthy human. It\’s been shown in other species and in those with medical conditions that limit the body\’s ability to absorb Vitamin E. It may be possible to develop a deficiency if you maintain a very strict and limited low fat diet for a period of time, but other vitamin deficiencies will show up as well.
A deficiency can occur in people with an inability to absorb fat, because some fat is needed in the digestive tract for the absorption of vitamin E. Someone with a genetic abnormality in their alpha-tocopherol transfer protein will have a deficiency of vitamin E. Lastly premature babies will be deficient in the vitamin or low birth weight babies because of a poor vitamin E transfer from the mother via the placenta to the baby or in the case of preemies simply a lack of time to transfer the vitamin. A vitamin E deficiency also seems to be connected to Zinc deficiencies. The body may use zinc in absorbing or making use of vitamin E or the diet could be lacking in multiple vitamins and nutrients.

Other conditions that can result in a vitamin deficiency are various intestinal disorders. Those suffering from Crohn\’s disease often experience diarrhea and subsequent inability to absorb vitamins. If you lack the ability to secrete bile you may need a special form of water soluble vitamin E since bile helps with the absorption of fats in the digestive tract.

Some symptoms of vitamin E deficiency are sometimes nerve degenerations in the hands and feet, muscle weakness, eventual blindness. In infants you may notice irritability and edema. While adults can develop anemia, which is a lack of red blood cells, so you may notice fatigue, weakness, and paleness.

The problem with vitamin E deficiency is that anyone who develops it will likely have a disease that is the underlying cause, such as Crohn\’s disease or gallbladder problems. So before diagnosing yourself as having a vitamin E deficiency you should get to a doctor and have them take a look at you for a proper diagnosis. In many cases treatment of the disease will naturally stop the symptoms.

With increasing demand for people who want to reverse the effects of aging, a growing number of products, including antiaging supplements, are making their way to market. With products including creams, skin treatments, pills and therapy, it’s no wonder that consumers can get dizzy with confusion over which method is best. There are the extremely expensive creams and systems endorsed by Hollywood stars. There are small fly-by-night operations pushing the latest and greatest antiaging supplement only to disappear in a few months. And who knows if what they offer really works? If you are looking for an affordable and safe way to age gracefully, try looking for natural antiaging supplements that are rich in antioxidants. The most prominent among antiaging supplements are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, green tea, and mangosteen.

Vitamin E is widely known as an antiaging supplement and can be taken in pill or capsule form. It is also a key ingredient in many antiaging creams and lotions. As an antioxidant, Vitamin E helps combat free radicals, which work to damage your body’s cells. Vitamin E also acts as a moisturizer, tightening and restoring resilience in the skin. You can increase your body’s Vitamin E intake by eating dark leafy green vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts.

Another important antioxidant and antiaging supplement is Vitamin C. In addition to helping your body fight those nasty free radicals, it also helps to keep your skin cells rejuvenated. Vitamin C is found in high amounts in fruits and vegetables such as papayas, pineapples, cantaloupes, tomatoes, green peppers, and citrus fruits.

Recently there has been a greater awareness of the benefits of green tea as an antiaging supplement. Like vitamins C and E, green tea is extremely effective in combating free radicals. And, thanks to high levels of the antioxidant EGCG, green tea has actually been found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells as well as help other medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Other Chinese teas, which also contain EGCG, do not possess the same medical benefits. This is because green tea goes through a steaming process which prevents the oxidation of the all-important EGCG.

The mangosteen fruit is a lesser known natural supplement that is highly touted as the “Queen of Fruits”. Scientific studies have revealed that this fruit is packed with antioxidants – more than any plant or vegetable in existence. Its high antioxidant content makes it ideal as an antiaging supplement. Mangosteen can also be taken for allergies, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol levels, inflammation, and viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.

Is Green tea is good for weight loss?

Yes, believe it or not, more and more often you’ll find green tea (or green tea extract) included in the compilations of many of the more popular weight loss supplements today. Tea has been used as an aid for weight loss. Drinking a cup of tea with each meal is a protocol for using tea successfully as a metabolic stimulant. Tea by itself carries only 4 calories per serving, and it’s most healthy when consumed with nothing added. The caffeine in tea increases body function to help burn more calories and the polyphenols seem to aid in the digestion of fat, truly making it a Chinese diet tea.

Green tea is recommended for the diet aid mainly because of its multifaceted effects on health. The major active component that attributes the properties to the green tea are the polyphenols such as catechin, epicatechin, epicatechin gallate, gallaogatechin, epigallocatechin, and apigallocatechin gallate (known as EGCG).

Green tea contains high concentrations of catechin polyphenols. These compounds work with other chemicals to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, where heat is created in the body by burning fuels such as fat. Drinking Japanese green tea regularly will increase your metabolism and help burn fat safely and naturally.

In Thailand, India, Japan and China, green tea has been used as a medicine for a variety of conditions from helping with digestion to healing wounds.

But while many in the medical field proclaim the wonders of this much talked about tea, others are quick to point out that there is little or no evidence to support at least some of the claims.

Glucose Regulator

Green tea also acts as a glucose regulator i.e. it slows the rise in blood sugar following a meal, by slowing the action of a particular digestive enzyme called amylase. This enzyme is pivotal in the breakdown of starches that can cause blood sugar levels to soar following a meal.

Green tea contains Vitamin B, C and thiamine. This will ensure that our brain cells have sufficient energy to protect the nervous system from being over stimulated. A good nourished brain will surely help in achieving your weight loss goals.

In November 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, in which researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.

The study conducted by the University of Geneva on the weight loss benefit of green tea extract implicated that green tea extract can also help thyroid patients. According to dietitian Lynn Moss, M.S., R.D., green tea extract is a healthier choice for people with thyroid who may be too sensitive to stimulants. Green tea extract can promote weight loss by increasing metabolism without over stimulating the adrenal glands.

Bottom Line: Green tea helps you with weight loss by boosting your metabolic rate, regulating your blood sugar, suppressing your appetite and giving you something else besides that high calorie, high sugar coffee beverage to drink in the morning.
While it’s not the magic bullet, it can definitely give you a boost in weight loss and in your overall health

If you are anything like the next person, you probably don’t like throwing money away on unneeded things. But the truth be told, millions of people fork over pay check after pay check to visit the doctor and seek treatment on an ailment that will eventually run its course in the same week with the proper diet. And if you are anything like me, you probably know that person who has been to their doctor 10+ times in the past year. It is no wonder why insurance prices are unbelievably high?

Also, many people are paying for an anti-biotic that will often cause more health harm than good. Did you know that the term ‘antibiotic’ actually stands for ‘no life’? And that is exactly what is happening in your body, the medication is killing good bacteria and bad bacteria. This is part of the reason there are 2-3 harsh side-effects associated with almost every medication. Especially with urinary tract infection medication.

Listen to physician and nutrition expert Dr. McDougal in regards to medication. “Today over prescribing and overuse of mind-altering drugs are doing far more harm than good in our society,” stated Dr. McDougal. He wrote this because in some cases of common ailments, like a urinary tract infection; it can be treated with simple remedies and simple lifestyle changes.

With all this said, “Have you considered trying a natural urinary tract infection remedy that will kill the bacteria with an acid naturally found in a piece of fruit?”

What’s Going on in Your Body?

E coli! We have all heard of it and this is most likely the cause of your pain. The bacterium Escherichia coli (E coli) is thought to be responsible for 80 to 90 percent of U.T.I.s which are most likely to affect women. It is believed that more than half of all women will experience a urinary tract infection sometime in their lifetime. And sadly, 20 to 40 percent of patients will experience it again.

In most cases, U.T.I.s are easily treated initially. However, if a sufferer does not seek treatment immediately, the infection can also spread to the kidneys which can be debilitating to the body, your health and sometimes fatal.

But are traditional medications doing their job? Dr. Scott J. Hultgren of Washington University School of Medicine states, “Recurrence is one of the biggest problems of UTIs. Even though we have treatments that eliminate the acute symptoms, the fact that the disease keeps recurring in so many women tells me that we need to develop better treatments.”

Could a natural urinary tract infection remedy be more effective?

Natural Urinary Tract Infection Remedy- 3 Simple Natural Tips

1.	Water! This is the easy one but it is very important to drink lots of water during and after treatment. We recommend our customers to be drinking at least 10 tall glasses which will cleanse the bladder a little more each time you urinate. Another good tip is to try to drink half your body weight in ounces each day.

2.	Cranberry Juice! Always go with 100% cranberry juice to allow this remedy to be more effective. Cranberries produce hippuric acid in the urine which makes the urine extremely acidic. The acid prevents the E coli bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder and allows you to flush them in one day if done at correct intervals.

3.	Vitamin C! It would always be suggested that you supplement Vitamin C into your diet for numerous reasons. And one reason is that a healthy immune system will lead to a health urinary tract.

Following It Up…

Here are just a few simple U.T.I. remedies that are included in our 12 step treatment. Is there more, YES!

We would recommend you follow these tip up with a basic ingredient found in your cupboard that neutralizes the acidic urine and offsets the acidic load. If you are interested in a guaranteed, step-by-step remedy report that have been doctor-approved and side-effect free, please visit our Natural U.T.I.

When you were a child, your mom probably had you take a vitamin every day, perhaps one of those fruit flavored Flintstones ones. This goes back to a very old thought process that says vitamins are good for you. Most of us simply accept that at face value, and for many of us, that habit continues into adulthood, although we change from Flintstones brand to something more appropriate, perhaps like Centrum.

In recent years, there have been various scientific reports and studies that claim to have thoroughly investigated the effect of vitamins on our systems. The one very interesting aspect of this is that those “thorough medical studies” have come up with very conflicting conclusions! Some of the conclusions state that vitamins are a waste of time and money and do nothing particularly beneficial for the body, while others claim that the supplemental vitamins and minerals that the body receives from a regiment of taking a vitamin a day should not be underestimated.

The truth of the matter is that both studies are right, but you need to understand WHY both studies are right. The truth of the matter is that people are different – drastically different, and lead different lifestyles. In this hectic day and age, most people don’t have the time to ensure that their three meals a day are healthy and filled with the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. Think about it, how many times per week are you just too tired to think about something nutritional, and the dinner plans quickly change to McDonalds or the phone number for pizza delivery, and you make amends by thinking that you will change your vitamin-deficient ways tomorrow, but tomorrow never comes?

There is no question about the fact that vitamins are beneficial to our general health, but the real question is HOW beneficial are they? That answer depends on your lifestyle as well as your general health. If your typical diet consists of fast food and pizza, your need for supplemental vitamins is much greater than someone else who puts a good deal of thought process into each meal preparation. In truth, there are significantly more people in the former category than the latter, unfortunately, just because we are a people that are always busy and always on the go, and the aspect of a good meal is typically saved for the weekend when we have more time.

Vitamins provide the enzymes that initiate the chemical reactions in the body to make things happen. Enzymes are the power houses of the body, because they initiate the biochemical reactions that are required for almost everything we do, such as healing, muscle contraction, food digestion, metabolism of proteins, and so much more.

Some vitamins are more important. For example, some studies have indicated that the vitamin B complex group is important for brain functions and can help fight and prevent Alzheimer’s Syndrome. Other research recently has shown the some vitamins taken in higher doses can fight and prevent other diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

One thing you can be sure of is that there are no studies that indicate that vitamins are a waste of money or that taken as directed, are detrimental to your body. So if you are not yet in the habit, get with the program and start taking a vitamin a day for better health!

Tea was reportedly discovered by a Chinese emperor some 40 centuries ago. And, legend has it, the discovery was purely by accident. But that coincidental discovery has improved the health of people around the world, who have turned to green tea in particular to help soothe their pains, improve their digestion, alleviate their depression, boost their immune system, and perhaps even lengthen their lives. But what is it that makes green tea so beneficial to human health?

The Ingredients of Success

Green tea is actually made up of a variety of ingredients. These include caffeine, vitamins, minerals, and oils. However, the most important ingredients are the polyphenols, especially one called EGCG, which is believed to improve health. In fact, it is the polyphenols which make green tea so much more effective than other beverages in fighting disease and illness.

Green Tea and Cholesterol

There have been some intriguing studies indicating that green tea can be effective in the fight against high cholesterol. Specifically, the beverage reduces “bad” cholesterol and boosts “good” cholesterol, improving an individual’s overall cholesterol profile.

In addition, green tea appears to lower overall cholesterol levels, helping to reduce one’s risk of developing heart disease. Similarly, green tea enhances cardiovascular health by improving the consistency of platelets in the blood.

Researchers have also found that green tea appears to protect against oxygen-induced damage to bad cholesterol. Drinking green tea also seems to enhance antioxidant processes in the bloodstream.
Effect of Green Tea on Blood Fats

In recent years, much attention has been focused on blood fats and the effects of diet and exercise on their consistency. In an interesting study conducted at the Department of Public Health at the National Defense Medical College in Saitama, Japan, researchers S. Kono, K. Shinchi, N. Ikeda, F. Yanai, and K. Imanishi investigated the impact of green tea consumption on blood fats, also known as serum lipids.

The study was published in an article entitled, “Tea Consumption and Serum Lipid Profiles: a Cross-Sectional Study in Northern Kyushu, Japan.”
Specifically, the researchers examined the correlation between green tea use and the serum lipid concentrations of more than 1300 men who underwent retirement health exams at the Self-Defense Forces Fukuoka Hospital between 1986 and 1988.

The researchers factored out variables such as alcohol use, use of tobacco, exercise levels, body mass index, and rank. They then discovered that the more green tea a patient drank, the lower his serum cholesterol levels. Men who drank nine or more cups of tea each day had total cholesterol levels that were eight mg/dl lower than those who drank two or fewer cups a day.

The serum cholesterol levels seemed to also decrease for men who ate a great deal of rice and soy beans, and increase for those who ate more Western foods. However, adjusting for these additional diet variables did not seem to affect the correlation between green tea use and total cholesterol levels.

Additional Evidence from the Animal Kingdom

It’s been said that there is a definite link between diet and exercise and coronary heart disease. Therefore, anything in the diet that improves serum lipid profiles should reduce the incidence of heart problems. It’s also known that green tea contains phytochemicals that work to decrease serum cholesterol as well as triglycerides.

In one animal study, 45 rats were subjected to a variety of treatments, including green tea. The study showed that consuming green tea improved the serum lipid profile by reducing total cholesterol, bad cholesterol, and trans fats. In addition, liver fat content decreased in rats that received a large amount of green tea.

Other Positive Effects of Green Tea Drinking

The polyphenols found in green tea may have some additional positive health effects. For instance, a number of animal and test tube studies indicate that these chemicals may have a substantial anti-cancer effect, especially in inhibiting the spread of melanoma, or skin cancer cells. Green tea has also been linked to a reduction in oral cancers and dental cavities.

In addition, green tea may stimulate the production of immune system cells. As a result, it can help the body fight bacteria, leading to improved overall health. In fact, one study showed that drinking ten or more cups of green tea each day could improve blood test results, protecting the body against liver damage.

How Much Green Tea is Enough?

Of course, you might be wondering how much green tea must be consumed in order to have a positive impact on health. In Asian nations, the typical tea drinker consumes about three cups each day—enough to provide as much as 320 mg of polyphenols. Nevertheless, some studies indicate as many as ten cups each day are needed in order to really make a difference in cholesterol levels and overall health.
Possible Side Effects

It should be noted that there can be some negative side effects associated with green tea consumption. While green tea is a relatively healthy drink, those who consume several cups of it each day may experience anxiety and insomnia brought on by the caffeine found in the beverage. Drinking green tea may also lead to iron deficiencies, since iron absorption in women may be reduced as much as 26 percent when green tea is consumed with a meal.

In addition, some drugs can interfere with green tea’s positive effects. Therefore, before switching to a diet rich in green tea, it may be best to check with a physician to determine if such a diet is right for you.
Looking to the Future

The forecast for green tea appears to be bright—as far as public health is concerned. Study after study seems to indicate that green tea can reduce cholesterol levels, combat cardiac disease, boost the immune system, and reduce the risk of cancer.

While additional study is needed in order to effectively harness all the benefits of green tea, it appears, for the moment, that simply adding a few cups of the brew to your daily diet can yield impressive health benefits.
