• Many adults are vitamin D deficient.

• People most likely to suffering of lack of vitamin D are the elder, people who need to avoid sunlight due to skin conditions, dark-skin people, and people unable to absorb the vitamin D for various reasons.

• It is recommended daily exposure of at least parts of the body to sunlight for the synthesis of vitamin D. It is recommended sunbath between 10 AM and 2 PM in summer should be avoided.

• It is recommended 400 IU of vitamin D supplementation a day.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is composed of two molecules; Cholecalciferol, known as Vitamin D3, and Ergocalciferol which is also referred to as Vitamin D2. Cholecalciferol is synthesized by UV light in the skin. Ergocalciferol is the form of Vitamin D extracted from plants which have been exposed to and absorb UV light.

Vitamin D is an important part of a healthy diet to promote proper bone function and strength. Working in part with calcium, Vitamin D provides bones with the nutrients needed to maintain strong and healthy bones, preventing fractures, breaks and bone loss.

Once ingested Vitamin D is metabolized by the liver, and then hydroxylated in the kidneys to produce the most active form, to facilitate the absorption of phosphate and calcium, mineralization of the skeleton and extracellular homeostasis with the help of parathyroid hormones.

Recommended Dosage of Vitamin D

The majority of Vitamin D retained by adults is from sunlight; however it is important to note that Vitamin D consumption should not be based only on sunlight. Adults should consume about 400 IU daily. Sunlight exposure for an average of 15 minutes yields absorption of 1/3 of the minimal erythemal dose.

While sunblock is important for prolonged sun exposure to prevent damage to skin, direct short exposure of the hands, arms and face to the sun while it is not intense is recommended for about 15 minutes. Sunblock prevents the penetration of UVA and UVB rays from the sun; UV rays are the necessary component for Vitamin D synthesis. During hotter months, it is advised to avoid direct sun exposure without sun block between 10AM and 2AM to prevent risks of serious skin damage.

Vitamin D is also found in several foods. Listed from highest to lowest IU value, they are: salmon, mackerel, tuna fish, fortified milk, fortified margarine, egg yolk and beef liver. Pure cod liver oil supplements are also a good source of Vitamin D, yielding a high IU value for a small amount. Since most adults consume less than 100 IU daily from diet, supplemental forms of Vitamin D are recommended, especially for those who do not receive proper sun exposure.

          ]]>

The recommended intake by the FDA is:

Vitamin D intake – Daily intake

Age / IU / mcg

0 – 50 / 200 / 5

51 – 70 / 400 / 10

71 + / 600 / 15

Groups at risk

Certain adults are more at risk than others. Generally the elderly are most susceptible to more serious Vitamin D deficiencies. This group usually does not receive as much sun exposure or consume as many foods with Vitamin D. Supplements are very highly recommended for the elderly. Hospital patients, especially those with hip fractures are also more susceptible to deficiencies of Vitamin D. Women who have a very dark skin tone are also at a very high risk; if the woman is usually veiled, this factor increases the risk further.

Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D deficiencies are classified in three different forms: mild, moderate and severe. Each deficiency is rated on a scale level of 25-OHD.

Mild vitamin D deficiency ranges between 25-50 nmol/L and result in the increase of secretions of parathyroid hormones and higher bone turnover.

Moderate vitamin deficiency ranges between 12.5-25 nmol/L and results in higher bone turnover and reduced density; usually a higher risk of hip fracture is associated with moderate deficiency as well.

Severe vitamin D deficiency rank below 12.5 nmol/L; results of severe deficiency are osteomalacia. Persons with osteomalacia experience pain in muscles and bones, along with frequent and severe fractures.

Toxicity

Toxicity is caused by excess ingestion of vitamin D supplementation not by exposure to the sunlight. There are no evidences of toxicity by doses lower than 4 000 IU daily.

Vitamin D and Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is one of the major cause of deaths. Every year about 220,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the USA. Doctors may sustain that vitamin D is not beneficial for cancer of the prostate until further studies proves its help.

Following that approach two things can happen: The patient may die while the conclusions of such studies are still pending or it can miss the point. Men diagnosed with cancer in the prostate cannot afford to be vitamin D deficient and neither should do their doctors although vitamin D should not be considered as the only treatment of prostate cancer. Evidences suggest that the proper intake of vitamin D3 may help fighting prostate cancer.

Vitamin D Acknowledgments

A paper from Feldman and the Stanford University states: “Based on these findings, we postulate that vitamin D may have protective actions on the development and/or progression of prostate cancer…We further hypothesize that vitamin D supplementation may have beneficial effects on retarding the development and/or progression of prostate cancer.” This is the first evidence of the usefulness of the Cholecalciferol in the prevention and treating of prostate cancer. Cholecalciferol, Calcidiol and Calcitriol.

Several scientific studies have been conducted since 1998 by American universities on vitamin D and its role in the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. It was found that the vitamin D raises the level of plasma calcidiol. The Calcitriol is made by the kidneys from the calcidiol which has been considered as beneficial for the treatment of prostate cancer. The easiest way to raise calcidiol levels is through supplementation of Cholecalciferol.

Further studies show that calcidiol is just as effective as calcitriol in inhibiting prostate cancer growth.

Calcitriol Breakdown Reduced by Soy Isoflavonoids

In 2003, two studies from at the University of Vienna Medical School confirmed that the isoflavonoids in soy dramatically reduce the breakdown of calcitriol in prostate cancer cells. In fact, they found that such products profoundly inhibit the enzyme that metabolizes calcitriol, reducing its activity to almost zero. This again raised the possibility that such compounds could be combined with vitamin D to treat prostate cancer. A study from the University of Toronto presented by Woo, Vieth, in 2004 showed that 2,000 IU of simple vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) either reduced or prevented further increases in PSA in the majority of men with advancing prostate cancer.

Vitamin D supplementation

There are a few supplements of concentrated form of Vitamin D available used to treat Vitamin D deficiencies. Most supplements contain the highest level of 1,000 IU. Depending on the severity of deficiency, it may be required supplementation between 3,000 and 5,000 IU daily for adequate replacement therapy.

Other supplements containing Vitamin D address specific issues but depending on the formulation they can also be used for general use or other. Some formulations for helping prostate health contain 1,600 IU of Vitamin D3 in one single dose. Prostate-C is considered one of the best products available and can be found online.

Over the years, Vitamin D has been noted for its protective benefits against several serious health concerns well beyond bone health. In the mid-1960s scientists began to unravel the true mysteries of this vitamin and found that Vitamin D was not really a vitamin at all. Vitamins are micronutrients that the body cannot produce on its own, but are needed in small quantities for health and well-being. Unlike other vitamins, Vitamin D can be produced by the body through exposure to the sun. Scientists found that Vitamin D was required by the body for numerous metabolic processes. Scientifically, Vitamin D is now referred to as the “Vitamin D hormone”.

According to researchers at the Loyola University, Vitamin D is definitely proving to be the “it” nutrient.1 Lack of Vitamin D has been associated with autoimmunity, fractures, cardiovascular disorders, as well as insulin sensitivity and secretion. Among a host of positive benefits, a healthy intake of Vitamin D is associated with supporting bone health, periodontal health, and mental health.

A recent research study suggests that Vitamin D deficiency may be associated with a significant increase in lung transplant rejection. A study investigator at the Loyola University Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center noted that about 77 percent of lung transplant patients are Vitamin D deficient. Researchers believe that Vitamin D is critical for positive lung transplant replacements and optimal levels are needed to help the immune system tolerate the new organ.2

Another new study conducted at the Stanford University Medical Center suggests that prime targets for Vitamin D deficiency are those who protect their skin daily from the sun because of a genetic disposition to certain chronic skin ailments. There is also an increasing concern of Vitamin D deficiency that may arise from sun protection, a recommendation of dermatologists. Over-protecting the skin from UV damage may result in low levels of Vitamin D leading to harmful affects on health. 3

          ]]>

Over the past thirty years, scientists have revealed a wide variety of functions that has boosted the benefits of vitamin D prompting the Food and Nutrition Board under the Institute of Medicine to re-evaluate the recommended dietary intake (RDI) of Vitamin D from its current RDI of 200 IUs. Their report “Dietary Reference Intakes for Calcium and Vitamin D” announcing the new RDI for Vitamin D will be released to the public on November 30, 2010.4

Meet Consumer Demand for Vitamin D Supplements with High-Quality Vitamin Manufacturers

As research continues to support the importance of Vitamin D in our diets, more people are choosing to take Vitamin D as a single supplement to increase their daily intake of this “vitamin hormone”. The sale of this vitamin has boosted the vitamin manufacturing industry as well. According to the Nutrition Business Journal, sales of vitamin D in 2009 were up 82 percent from the previous year.5

To help supply this growing need, supplement manufacturing companies can make sure they include a high-quality Vitamin D supplement in their product line. It is an organic compound and can not be produced by the body in sufficient quantity so that vitamins should be obtained through proper nutrition. There are different types of vitamins such as vitamin A, which is also known as retinol, vitamin D , which is also known as calciferol and vitamin E, which is another name tocopherol known. Vitamin B is divided into several types, namely vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B7 (Biotin), vitamin B9 (folic acid) and Vitamin B12 (Cob). There are also vitamin K1, the scientists and doctors are known as Phylioquinone.
Different vitamins have different food sources and most vitamins have been found in meat, green vegetables, dairy products and citrus fruits.

One of the most important vitamins for the body’s vitamin D, which has been classified as vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 .
Both are fat soluble and are naturally in the skin of all vertebrates produced. The production is caused by exposure to UV-B rays, which could be sunlight or from artificial sources. It reduces natural production, a Vitamin D is taken to the requirements of the body’s needs.

Although the amount of vitamin D produced naturally in the skin usually meets the requirements, some foods also contain small amounts of it for the requirement will be fulfilled manually.
Vitamin D is found mainly in dairy products, meat and oily fish. However, the best choice to consume vitamin D to fungi, which have had a good sun exposure to consume. The importance of vitamin D for humans since ancient times and today we see so many nations where commonly consumed foods such as flour, milk and margarine are artificially treated to the vitamin D content known. For individuals who lack sufficient UV light, a Vitamin D would be the best choice available.

Although the vitality of the presence of this substance in the body has always been given importance, it was not until 1913 that vitamin D was inadvertently found that in cod liver oil. First, his health benefits were made available have been confused by vitamin A, but destroys a test of cod liver oil with vitamin A or, if they benefit from it. Hence came the astonishing effect of vitamin D to the limelight.

Normally 5?g of vitamin D is sufficient for one person it is a 1 year old baby or a 70-year-old man are recommended over 70 or 71 years, taking about 10 ug increase. This large volume is usually packaged in a vitamin D supplement from most manufacturers. Therefore, people that are necessary with these additions, do not take more than one capsule per day.
consumption or requirement of this vitamin can vary from region to region according to climatic and environmental conditions and health and lifestyle of the people. In addition to UV light irradiated mushrooms, are some of the most recommended foods that can actually provide vitamin D, eggs, cooked beef and cod liver oil level.

The balance of intake and vitamin D in the body must be considered significant, since they may lack in a number of lead health hazards. Some common problems are encountered due to lack of vitamin D rickets , Osteomalacia , cancer , Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s Disease, along with many others.
Most problems are connected to bones and affect the stability of the bone, so brining traffic problems as fractures and undesirable design Haltungen.Knochenschwund, softening, vomiting, weakness and inefficiency are some of the major effects of lack of vitamin D. Since the entire human body through the skeletal system and thus the bone is supported, it must be maintained made excellent. Every problem in the skeletal system could be devastating for the whole body. Thus, the lack of vitamin D can be neglected in any way.

Because natural production is much better than artificial feeding, you must try, always exposed to UVB light as much as possible and eat food, the balance of vitamin D in the body to help. Only those people who have problems to know, too bright or health issues that prohibit the consumption of eggs , fish and other vitamin D-rich foods, on the vitamin supplement to leave exposed D Of course. Healthy people need to try to produce as much food as possible and easy for a happy and healthy life.

It is not a single B-vitamin, but there are eight water-soluble vitamins, of which each plays an important role in cell metabolism process that makes up the so-called known vitamin B complex. While the B vitamins were once thought only a single vitamin, research has shown that these eight chemically distinct vitamins that may coexist in the same food, but that can also found in other sources are whole food available as well. During these eight vitamins known to be combined in a supplement of the vitamin B complex, can single B vitamin supplements are also available. Each of the Vitamin B vitamins is differentiated by a series, and has also bears his name.

Vitamin B1 – Vitamin B1 is also known as thiamin, is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for healthy neural function and metabolism of carbohydrates. The result of a thiamine deficiency in most cases, beriberi, which is a disease of the nerves and heart. Less severe deficiencies may result in weight loss, confusion, irritability and discomfort. Vitamin B1 can in small doses in many whole food sources such as peas, asparagus, cauliflower, yeast, brown rice, oranges, pork, eggs and potatoes to find.

Vitamin B2 – Vitamin B2 is also known as riboflavin and is easily absorbed vitamin that plays a key role in maintaining the rule plays overall health. Vitamin B2 is necessary for many cellular processes within the body including energy metabolism, fat, carbohydrates, protein and ketone bodies. Popular sources of Vitamin B2 are milk, cheese, liver, legumes, yeast, almonds, lobster and soybeans. Riboflavin is easily destroyed by light, so it is difficult to obtain this vitamin through the whole food sources.

Vitamin B3 – Vitamin B3 is also known as niacin and is an organic compound which is a derivative of pyridine, and plays an essential role in the metabolism of living cells. Vitamin B3 or Niacin is particularly important in relation to the detoxification of xenochemicals, along with the repair of DNA and the production of steroid hormones in the adrenal gland. Vitamin B3 in many whole food sources available, including animal products like fish, salmon, milk and eggs, fruits and vegetables such as carrots, dates, avocados, broccoli, seeds, nuts and whole grains and some fungi, including yeast and fungi.

Vitamin B5 – Vitamin B5 is also known as pantothenic acid and is a water-soluble vitamin that is an important nutrient to sustain life. Vitamin B5 is critical when it comes to the synthesis and metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B5 can be found in a variety of whole food sources, in which he named, who is from the Greek word “pantothenic acid” for “anywhere” is derived. Pantothenic acid or vitamin B5 is in high amounts in whole grain cereals, eggs, meat, royal jelly and legumes found.

Vitamin B6 – Vitamin B6 is also known as pyridoxine, although there are two other compounds, commonly referred to as vitamin B6, pyridoxal and pyridoxamine. Vitamin B6 is primarily for its ability to sodium and potassium balance in the body known, and it also promotes the production of red blood cells. The most popular source of pyridoxine is dragon fruit that comes from Southeast Asia.

Vitamin B7 – Vitamin B7 is also known as Vitamin H or Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a role in the metabolism of leucine and fatty acids, and in the process of gluconeogenesis. Biotin can be found in a variety of different whole food sources, although usually in low concentrations. Royal jelly and brewer’s yeast are the main sources of vitamin B7, although this vitamin is also found in oilseed meal, dried yeast, alfalfa, milk, liver, eggs and some vegetables as well.

Vitamin B9 – Vitamin B9 is also known as Vitamin F, Vitamin Bc or Folic acid and is most to be sourcing from green leafy vegetables that contain this vitamin, its name is known. Folic acid, folate, or can be found in dried beans and green leafy vegetables such as spinach, lettuce and kohlrabi, fortified cereals, sunflower seeds, peas, and some other fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin B12 – Vitamin B12 is also known as cobalamin, and is vital in the normal functioning of the nervous system and brain, and the normal development of the blood in the body. Vitamin B-12 plays a role in the metabolism of the cells in the body, including its regulation and synthesis and the synthesis of fatty acids and energy production as well. The natural, whole-food source of vitamin B-12 for both humans and animals other animal products like meat, eggs and dairy products.

Although new sophisticated methods for acne treatment such as laser therapy have been developed to reduce those acne blemishes, there are natural inexpensive ways to manage and even eliminate acne effectively. Vitamins form an integral part of the human skin. Therefore, deficiency in these nutrients can cause a wide range of skin disorders such as acne. Ensuring adequate intake of vitamins for acne control targets the underlying cause and guarantees acne free skin within a short span of time.

Best Vitamins for Acne Control

In order to get that beautiful complexion, doctors often mention to follow a diet rich in vitamins for acne free skin. Consume natural sources of vitamins daily and the acne will soon vanish. Information about acne control using vitamins is provided below:

Vitamin A
Whether it is to control or prevent acne, vitamin A can certainly contribute in many ways to manage this skin problem effectively. Synthesis of skin building compounds like collagen (a type of protein) is dependent on vitamin A. No wonder, topical application or oral intake of retinoids (compounds derived from vitamin A) can work wonders to subside severe forms of acne. There is little doubt that vitamin A plays a crucial role to control and heal acne. So, if you want your pimples to clear away quickly, opting for vitamin A for acne treatment is definitely recommended.

Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5, also referred to as pantothenic acid also comes in the list of vitamins for acne control. Vitamin B5 acne treatment is yet another powerful tool to relieve acne.
Vitamin B5 works to reduce production of sebum (oil), thereby helping to control acne. Even doctors recommend the use of vitamin B5 to combat acne (pantothenic acid for acne) and improve the appearance of the skin.

Vitamin B1
Is the list of vitamins for acne control limited to only vitamin A and B5? Absolutely not! Vitamin B1 (thiamine) also has acne fighting properties and can certainly stop acne from aggravating. Thiamine, being an antioxidant helps to reduce the impact of free radicals on the skin as well as eliminates toxins from the body, which promotes a smoother, acne free skin.

Vitamin B2
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is also important to maintain healthy skin. Studies have also proved that vitamin B2 can make a person susceptible to skin disorders including acne. Also, too much stress can worsen acne, thus making it difficult to manage it properly. Adequate vitamin B2 intake is an easy way to reduce stress, thereby helping to fight acne successfully.

Vitamin B3
Talking about vitamins for acne control and it would be foolish not to mention about vitamin B3 (nicotinamide). The inflammation and the acne spots (whiteheads, papules and blackheads) associated with this skin disorder, respond quite well to vitamin B3 treatment.

Vitamin B6
Hormonal imbalance which is more common in women also gives rise to acne. Research has shown that vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) assists in regulating hormone levels in our body. So, in case skin problems like acne are a result of hormonal changes, doctors suggest to increase vitamin B6 consumption to restore hormonal balance. This in turn contributes to reducing acne considerably.

Vitamin B9
Skin disorders associated with a diet lacking in vitamin B9 (folic acid) can manifest in the form of acne. A person with vitamin B9 deficiency is bound to suffer from acne sooner or later. Vitamin B9 assists in regeneration of healthy skin cells, which can help to improve acne.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is also equipped with properties that help to to keep acne under control. The process of healing acne may take a backseat in case the person is deficient in vitamin C. Vitamin C is crucial to maintain production of collagen (proteins that keep the skin elastic and firm). Being an antioxidant, it rejuvenates the skin and reduces the harmful effects of free radicals. In order to accelerate recovery from acne, adequate vitamin C is a must.

Vitamin E
Vitamin E acts as an excellent anti-inflammatory agent. Be it protection from UV light or increasing the softness of the skin, vitamin E does everything to improve the skin’s health. Considering the benefits of vitamin E on the skin, taking it orally or in topical form can benefit in reducing acne.

Following a healthy well balanced diet provides all the acne vitamins and is considered to be the best way to include vitamins for acne control in your daily meals. For severe forms of acne (cystic acne), a diet alone may not be enough to reduce the appearance of those embarrassing blemishes. So, in addition to a diet, taking vitamin supplements internally or applying lotions containing these nutrients as instructed by the doctor (excess doses can harm the skin) can be a good remedy to alleviate acne symptoms.
