Drink Your Antioxidants with POMx Tea

General Info, Vitamin E No Comments »

pom_teasAs you already know, I’m a big fan of the POM pomegranate juice and the fabulous benefits you get from drinking and cooking with this delicious, antioxidant rich juice. Today, I wanted to share another drink that I enjoy from the good people over at POM – their POMx teas!

There is a whole line of POMx teas now in a wide variety of flavors, including my favorites – POMx Pomegranate Blackberry Tea.  I like this flavor best because I’m a big fan of almost any berry flavor and putting it in a tea with the pomegranate undertones was pure genius.

Now, the POMx teas are yummy and refreshing – yes – but I also love the fact they are packaged in recyclable bottles. I really appreciate this because I take my responsibility to the earth seriously, and recycling is part of that for me (yes, I’m one of those people who brings those reusable shopping bags to the grocery store!).  I appreciate that POM Wonderful has taken their responsibility just as seriously. :)

The Fabulous Antioxidant Vitamin E

Vitamin E No Comments »

Vitamin E is extremely important for a variety of functions in the body. A healthy heart needs plenty of Vitamin E as it has been shown to actually prevent heart disease. Vitamin E can also help contain any existing heart disease and stop it from getting worse.

Vitamin E is also vital in protecting the cell membranes from the harmful free radicals that are present in the body. This is at the core of the benefits of this antioxidant. Without vitamin E, amongst other antioxidants, the cell membranes would be damaged and this could lead to serious health problems, including cancer. The reason that vitamin E is so effective against free radicals is that it is fat soluble so it can be absorbed into the cell membranes. Vitamin E is therefore essential for the immune system.

  • Green tea contains four principle polyphenols (aka “super” antioxidants). Various research studies show they support healthy aging and the immune system, and also benefit cardiovascular health.
  • Berries are a great source of antioxidants. Blueberries are considered a “superfood” because they are rich in the antioxidants called “anthocyannins”. Strawberries, bilberries, raspberries, cherries, and cranberries are particularly high in “ORAC” (Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity).
  • Spinich (among other leafy green vegetables) is high in “lutein,” which is as an antioxidant in the eye protecting cells from harmful free radicals.
  • Grape Seed Extract is well known for its “proanthocyanadins” which contains more antioxidant power than vitamins E, C or Beta Carotene. It is a wonderful free radical fighter that has been noted for it’s effect on cardiovascular health, brain health and mental alertness.
